Who could oppose protecting children? Children are our future. Who could be for things that harm children? Well, actually nobody could! Which is why deceptive people USE the phrase to exploit the issue for their own agendas. IN some cases they wish to hijack the issue to further their political causes. Others to advance themselves in some manner. In other cases it is a shallow form of ego development so the people can feel good about themselves or as a form of image enhancement with others. In some cases it is a form of acting out some personal life drama. Perhaps their own childhood abuse. And sadly, not as infrequently as we'd like to see it is wither a form of what is known as the "Comstock Syndrome" or just some cynical desire to be near children to exploit them sexually. What better place for a child molester to hide? Why, whoever would think that one of the nation's most vocal people on child abuse could himself be a pedophile? Yet it has happened again and again. As I have heard the calls to hysteria from some people, I have often said to myself in a small voice "me thinketh he doeth protesteth too much." Almost invariably I see that individual arrested for child molestation and admitting to the crime. After 22 years helping defend the wrongly accused I may have become a bit too cynical, seeing police detectives with massive collections of child pornography, seeing a very outspoken child psychiatrist admitting to molesting over 900 children he had "evaluated" for abuse in a 9 year period at a major hospital in the east. Not to mention child protective services workers and foster parents. We have done cases to prove abuse did occur. We do not employ the hysterics or their methodology. We are cautious and make sure the abuse is real before we raise the issue. The evidence is overwhelming that children are harmed irreparably by false allegations. But we do assist parents who need to be sure that children are protected. I have been interested in the subject of child abuse for well over 20 years because of what my own children experienced, and finding a system that failed them and allowed the abuse to continue because it wouldn't admit the person who was abusing them could be abusing them. I took an opportunity to help a Utah legislator work on getting landmark legislation passed that would protect children. I have seen that legislation abused. Some people don't realize that acting precipitously, without the facts, harms children. The psychological damage for removing a child from its home when it proves to have been unnecessary can never be undone. We need more than mere lip service to the idea of child removals being the "last resort." With most social agencies despite the disingenuous claims it is almost always the first resort. Permanently traumatizing the children beyond repair. And often the abuse children suffer in shelter care or foster homes is worse than the abuse they supposedly are being protected from IF it were truly occurring. Which often it proves out it wasn't. The present system is built on hysteria. I certainly am not the only one who recognizes that. We see too many people, even people in Congress and high positions in our nation whose call is that of the call to a lynch mob mentality. The call to mass hysteria. In this process the REAL needs of children are lost. Children and children's issues become pawns of cynical agendas that have nothing to do with any real caring for children. Some day a "system" will be in place that is competent, and can work without hysteria or prejudice. That day isn't 1998. Today parents and others need is a source they can turn to so they can get help with wrongful allegations. A place of competent legal help, and experts whereby they can regain their children and reputations. There are many people on the net today who "CLAIM" to be experts on defending against false allegations. Most of these people will do more harm than good. Some know what they are doing. You'll find some on our links page. Still others mix good advice with bad advice. Many of you will find out the hard way. Some ways to tell is by looking to see what affiliations they have with reputable agencies. How do they come to "KNOW" what they claim to? Is it based on formal education? Or did it all just come to them from a bad experience? What is their personal track record? Did they win their case? Do they have their own children? Did they just start giving themselves a title or did they earn it? Some folks give advice to the wrongly accused with the best of intentions. But as the old saying goes, the "road to hell is paved with the best of intentions." Nobody ALWAYS wins cases. But what is the track record like? We don't help the truly guilty "get off" no matter what the hysterics may claim. It has never been my aim or that of anyone I have associated with to support the people who harm children. We take affirmative steps to be sure we don't. We support programs that really have child protection as their goal. We do not support those programs that abuse the legal process violating both the rights of accused parents and using children to further another agenda. It is our position that using children to further an agenda unrelated to their actual welfare is child abuse and that the predatory individuals who perpetrate these acts should be prosecuted.
